Years ago, solar panels were just for advanced science and research facilities or for sci-fi movies. Now? Look around. You are seeing them on homes in your neighborhood and as you drive about town. But solar panels aren’t just for residential homes. They are growing very popular for residences around the country because it doesn’t take much to start cutting your energy bill in half, of course. Solar energy is taking over more than just the residential homes you’re seeing in your hometown.
Many businesses are making the switch to solar panels. One reason is that of course they want to lower their energy bills. Solar panels can be a cost up front but begin instantly to save and pay for themselves – especially in a large business building. Another reason is that businesses have a pressing desire to “go green” and make commitments to the future for their customers and clients.
If you’ve ever been rumbling along the freeway in a quiet desert or countryside and looked over to see a giant rectangle of reflecting, glaring light – you’ve seen the future. Solar farms are popping up around the country in isolated areas. Tens of square miles can be used at a time to host huge squares of solar panels that do nothing but soak and store solar energy. This energy is transported to cities or used to power scientific and manufacturing facilities near them.
Lights, Cars, and More
There are organizations today which are creating street lights, small vehicles, small machines, and other devices which are solar paneled – specifically for the developing world. Getting electricity into undeveloped areas can be tricky, but solar panels can allow free and consistent illumination or operation of things that third world countries need. Scientists are also making great strides in creating pretty much any electrical tool that can be solar powered. Yes, we even mean cars. It may take years before there are functional prototypes for solar versions of every electrical or energy-powered item you use in your daily life, but the idea is that eventually you’ll be able to make the switch to a solar powered option.
Solar power is what will drive and fuel our future. It is clean, free, renewable, and safe. We are finding out every day just how useful solar energy can be, and soon power bills and gas stations will be a thing of the past.
